To: Members of the Kansas House and Kansas Senate I join with other Kansans and call on you to support an increase in revenues to support Kansas public schools and other vital services. Schools have endured more cuts than they can handle. It is vitally important to have a strong public education system which will prepare our students to compete in a global economy. The Kansas Constitution requires the state to provide funding for our schools. The legislature should give careful consideration to every strategy for increasing revenue that provides our state with the strong foundation needed to meet its current and future responsibilities to the people of Kansas. Revenue sources that should be examined and considered by the legislature include: elimination of corporate tax breaks; all tax exemptions; increases in sales, income, and sin taxes; as well as taxing recreational activities such as lottery ticket and bingo card purchases. We are counting on you to keep your promise to Kansas kids.
